Additional
Domains
You can add additional domains to your account if you have
a Domain Package or higher. There are three possible ways
to do this: web alias, subweb, and a http
redirect. In addition to CAMEX VI's fees, you would also
be responsible for any domain registration fees (if any).
Also keep in mind that you can add a sub-domain(third level
domain) in any of the configurations below.
Brief overview of domains:
Top
Level Domains(also known as TLDs, or first level domains)
these include .com, .net, and .org
Second Level Domains these include a registered
name with a Top Level Domain naming authority like InterNIC,
examples of Second Level Domains would be camexvi.com,
or microsoft.com.
Third Level Domains (also known as sub-domains),
these are domains served at the local level to the second
level domain, for example all CAMEX VI basic account customers
get a third level domain like customer.camexvi.com.
The owner of the Second Level Domain has authority over third
level domains.
Web Alias $18/setup, no monthly fee.
A Web Alias is simply a domain which can be substituted for
an existing domain. For example you currently can visit CAMEX
VI by going to
www.camexvi.com, or to
www.camexv.net.
Both domains refer to the same place, however
camexvi
is a web alias. It is possible to have e-mail aliases, on these
domains, however you cannot have e-mail accounts.
Subweb $18/setup, $10.00/month.
A subweb is a subdirectory on your web account which has a domain
mapped to it. For example while a new site could be physically
located at
www.yourdomain.com/cool_info/, on the web
it would appear as
www.cool-info.com (not
www.yourdomain.com/cool_info/).
On the web it appears as an independent domain web site, however
it physically shares all your account resources: web space,
usage statistics, passwords, customer service area, FrontPage
extensions, etc... Basically it allows for an independent web
site that is inexpensive and simple to manage. Subwebs are NOT
web accounts, they DO NOT have their own username and passwords,
and are not intended for allowing multiple people to have independent
access to independent sites on the same web account
NOTE:
Miva, cgi, FrontPage web bots and most FreeCGI scripts will
not work with Subwebs due to incompatibilities with this type
of server configuration. If you need these features you should
consider purchasing additional web accounts.
HTTP Redirect $18/setup, $10.00/month.
HTTP Redirect is similar to a subweb, however the domain is
not mapped to the directory. Basically when someone types the
domain name in their web browser, they will be automatically
redirected to the actual physical location.
on the
web www.cool-info.com resolves to www.yourdomain.com/cool_info/
(you are redirected to the actual physical location)
This option
is not popular and you would need to contact CAMEX VI Support
if you would like to set it up.
